Three Games Behind Buffalo, Five Division Games Left: The AFC East Board Barely Counts the Jets
The Jets AFC East odds rest less on how the New York Jets are playing than on how far behind they already are: at 2-4 on October 23, 2026, three games back of 5-1 Buffalo and a game and a half behind 4-3 New England, the Jets have to pass two clubs, and the market treats that double climb as close to out of reach. The Jets play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is why the division race is a New Jersey question, and three of their five remaining AFC East games are there. The live board above carries the current prices.
What the Jets AFC East Price Is Saying
On October 23, 2026, Polymarket had the New York Jets at 1% to win the AFC East, the best price on them, with Kalshi at 2%. Kalshi had traded about 202,700 contracts on its Jets line over the life of the market and Polymarket about $2.8K, a small slice of a four-club board on which Kalshi counted about 901,100 contracts and Polymarket about $64.7K. What the price is saying is that the market expects a Jets division title about once in a hundred seasons that start like this one, and that few traders are paying to argue the point.
The rest of the board explains why. On October 23, 2026, Polymarket had Buffalo at 71%, with Kalshi at 74%, and Kalshi and Polymarket both had New England at 26%; Polymarket had Miami at 0.3%, against Kalshi's 1%. That is a two-club race with the Jets and Dolphins priced as onlookers, and it is the real obstacle for the Jets: a division title means finishing ahead of Buffalo and New England both, so the board prices the Jets as if two collapses had to arrive in the same season.
The table is the reason. After New England's 30-24 loss at Chicago on Thursday night, October 22, ESPN's AFC standings had Buffalo at 5-1, New England at 4-3, the Jets at 2-4 and Miami at 0-5. Buffalo had scored 197 points and allowed 171; the Jets had scored 112 and allowed 122. The one division game the Jets have played, a 26-19 loss at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on October 18, went to New England, and it left the Jets 0-7 against AFC East opponents under coach Aaron Glenn, according to the Associated Press preview of their next game.
Buffalo and New England, the Clubs Above the Jets in the AFC East
Buffalo's case rests on its offense. ESPN's Nick Suss wrote on October 21 that the Bills led the league at 32.8 points per game going into their bye, with Josh Allen credited with four game-winning drives in six games and a league-leading eight rushing touchdowns. The same piece names the weakness: Buffalo's defense ranked 28th in points allowed, and among the 63 teams that started 5-1 over the last two decades, the Bills sat in the bottom ten by point differential. Their wins include a 37-34 overtime game at the Rams on October 12 and a 33-30 game at Las Vegas on October 18.
The Bills are idle on October 25 and return against Baltimore at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York on November 1 without safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, whose one-game suspension for spitting during the Las Vegas game was upheld on appeal on October 22. A second suspension from the same game, of special teams captain Sam Franklin Jr., was reduced to a fine on October 23. Neither changes much on its own; what the market weighs is a scoring team that has been winning close games with a defense that gives points back.
New England holds the one result Buffalo does not: a 29-26 win at Highmark Stadium on October 4, the only meeting so far between the two clubs at the top, and a 2-0 division record. The Patriots had won three straight before Thursday's loss in Chicago, where Drake Maye completed 24 of 31 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns but threw an interception in the end zone late in the second quarter. The rematch is at Gillette Stadium on December 6. Polymarket settles a tie atop the division by the NFL's official tiebreak procedure, so the October 4 game is part of the board's picture before the rematch is played.
Miami is the fourth club and the Jets' next opponent. The Dolphins were 0-5 under first-year coach Jeff Hafley after their bye, with 70 points scored and 132 allowed, and the AP preview noted they are trying to avoid the franchise's fifth 0-6 start. On October 23, 2026, Polymarket had Miami at 0.3%, the best price on the Dolphins, which means the market treats them as already out of it; for the Jets, the two Miami games are chances to gain ground that do not touch Buffalo or New England directly.
The Five Games Left on the Jets AFC East Schedule
For the Jets, the division is still mostly unplayed, which is the only reason the price is above zero. Five of their eleven remaining games are against AFC East clubs: Miami at MetLife Stadium on October 25, Buffalo at MetLife on November 15, Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on November 29, New England at MetLife on December 27, and Buffalo at Highmark Stadium on the final weekend, listed for January 10, 2027. Every final-weekend game is played inside a division, so the Jets close the season against the club the market makes the favorite.
The other six games surround those five: Las Vegas at home on November 1, a trip to unbeaten Kansas City on November 8, the winless Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on November 22, Denver at home on December 13 after the bye, Arizona in Glendale on December 20 and Minnesota at home on January 3, 2027.
The roster is closer to whole than at any point since the opener. Glenn said on October 23 that receiver Adonai Mitchell, out four games after a procedure on his right hand, will play against Miami, which gives the Jets Mitchell, Garrett Wilson and rookie Omar Cooper Jr. together for the first time since the opening series of the season, ESPN's Rich Cimini reported. Running back Breece Hall, who has missed three games with a quadriceps injury, was listed as questionable after two limited practices, and left guard Dylan Parham was also questionable. The offense is the open question: the Jets were scoring 18.7 points per game, with four touchdowns in their last three games, and offensive coordinator Frank Reich said on October 22 that the aim is to get Wilson the ball "as early and as often as we can."
The Case Against the Jets AFC East Read
The strongest counterread is that the Jets have not lost the division race so much as barely started it. Five of their six AFC East games are still to come, three of them at MetLife Stadium, and Buffalo's 5-1 record leans on close finishes and a defense that ranked 28th in points allowed. A skeptic of the board would say a team that wins that many one-score games is due to give some back, and that a 1% price on October 23, 2026 at Polymarket treats a three-game deficit with eleven games to play as if it were final.
There is a personnel version of the argument too. Geno Smith had thrown one interception in six starts through October 18, and the receivers who were missing for most of that run are back. Two wins over Buffalo would cut the gap with the Bills by two games on their own, without any help from elsewhere.
The answer is that the Jets would have to do it against two clubs at once. Catching Buffalo still leaves New England, which already holds a division win over the Jets and plays them again on December 27, and the board prices the Jets as needing both clubs above them to falter in the same season.
What Changes the Jets AFC East Read
The read that the gap is too wide for the board to take the Jets seriously would prove wrong if the Jets win the division games in front of them while the two leaders lose theirs. This read is wrong if the Jets are within two games of the lead after their November 15 game against Buffalo. The dated tests:
• Miami, October 25: Buffalo is idle that day, so a Jets win is the first half-game they can take back without help; a loss at MetLife to a winless club would make them 0-8 against the division under Glenn.
• Baltimore at Buffalo, November 1: the Bills' first game after the bye, without Gardner-Johnson, played the same afternoon the Jets host Las Vegas.
• Buffalo at MetLife, November 15: the first Jets game against the division leader, with seven games left after it.
• Buffalo at New England, December 6: the rematch that sets the order above the Jets before the Patriots visit MetLife on December 27.
When the Jets AFC East Market Resolves
The market resolves on the club that wins the AFC East for the 2026 regular season, which ends January 10, 2027. Kalshi lists the board as KXNFLAFCEAST-27 and pays Yes on the contract for the club that wins the Pro Football AFC East Division, as first reported by its source agencies, the league, the Associated Press, ESPN, The Wall Street Journal and Fox Sports, with an expected expiration of January 11, 2027 at 10:00 am Eastern; a club the source agencies report as eliminated settles No before then. Polymarket resolves its AFC East Champion event on the team the NFL declares division champion, using the league's official tiebreak procedure when clubs finish level, and resolves to Other if no champion is declared by January 17, 2027 at 11:59 pm Eastern.
Related Jets and New Jersey Markets
The Jets' other season-long boards ask smaller versions of the same question. The Jets playoff market prices a top-seven finish in the AFC, which does not require passing Buffalo, and the Jets win total market prices how many games they win.
