A 1-3 Start Puts Two Hurdles in Front of the Jets, and the AFC Title Board Prices Both
The Jets AFC championship odds rest on a single fact the market weighs above everything else: a 1-3 start leaves the New York Jets needing to win their way into the playoffs before a conference title is even on the table, and the board prices that first step as the improbable one. The Jets play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is why an AFC title, and the Super Bowl place that comes with it, is a New Jersey question. What the price is saying, as of October 5, 2026, is that the Jets are close to the bottom tier of a conference whose top is unusually crowded. The live board above carries the current prices.
How the AFC Championship Board Prices the Jets
Two exchanges list the AFC champion. On October 5, 2026 Kalshi had the Jets at 1%, the only price on them above zero; Polymarket's Jets line rounded to 0% on the same date. That puts the Jets level with the Chargers, Miami and Tennessee, three clubs that were 0-4, and behind twelve other AFC teams. About $1.02M has traded on the Jets contract across both venues, of $14.6M on the full board.
The top of the board is flat, and that is the context for the Jets' price. Polymarket had the Buffalo Bills at 18%, Baltimore at 14% and Jacksonville at 11% on October 5, 2026; Kalshi had Kansas City at 17%. No club was priced above one chance in five, which means the market sees no AFC favourite strong enough to make the conference a formality. Even so, it put the Jets at the floor, because the Jets' problem is not the strength of the best team but the number of clubs between them and January.
Two of the clubs at the top of that board are on the Jets' schedule. Kansas City, 4-0 on October 5, hosts the Jets on November 8, and Buffalo, 3-1, plays them at MetLife Stadium on November 15 and in Orchard Park, New York on the final weekend of the regular season, listed for January 10, 2027.
The First Step: Reaching the AFC Playoffs
Seven AFC clubs qualify for the playoffs, under the format in place since the 2020 season, and only the top seed skips the Wild Card round. On October 5, 2026 ESPN's provisional table had the Jets twelfth. Kansas City was 4-0, five clubs were 3-1, and New England held the last playoff place at 2-2 with four other 2-2 clubs level behind it. Kalshi, the only exchange pricing whether the Jets reach the postseason, had them at 10% on the same date, so the market already sees the Jets missing the playoffs nine times in ten before any conference game is considered.
The record has its reasons. The Jets won 23-10 at Tennessee on September 13, then lost 20-17 in overtime to Green Bay at MetLife Stadium, 31-24 at Detroit and 23-12 at Chicago on October 4. Geno Smith, acquired from Las Vegas in a March 11 trade, has started all four games; his best was 31 of 37 for 321 yards and three touchdowns in Detroit, his thinnest 8 of 15 for 119 yards in Chicago. ESPN's injury report on October 5 listed running back Breece Hall as out, and receiver Arian Smith is out for the season after ACL surgery on September 23.
The Second Step: Three Playoff Wins
Even a Jets team that reaches the postseason would most likely do so as a wild card, which in the current format means three playoff games to reach the Super Bowl: the Wild Card round on January 16 to 18, 2027, the Divisional round on January 23 and 24, and the AFC Championship Game on January 31.
That is why the AFC price sits so far below the playoff price. The market's read is not that the Jets cannot beat a good team on a given Sunday, but that a 1-3 club with a minus-eight scoring margin, chasing six teams that already have three or more wins, has to string together a run of results in two separate competitions.
The Case Against the Jets AFC Championship Read
The strongest counterread is that the board is pricing the Jets on their worst afternoon. Two of the three losses came by three points in overtime and by seven on the road, and the scoring margin across four games is minus eight, closer to a .500 team than a 1-3 one. A skeptic would also point to the flatness at the top: when Buffalo, Kansas City and Baltimore were each priced between 14% and 18% at their best on Kalshi or Polymarket on October 5, 2026, the conference is open, and a club that gets into the tournament has a real path.
The schedule gives that argument something to work with. Three of the Jets' remaining opponents were 0-4 on October 5, 2026, Miami twice and the Chargers in Inglewood, California, and Cleveland and Las Vegas both visit East Rutherford in the next four weeks.
The answer is the order of operations: none of that matters for this contract unless the Jets first climb past five or six clubs for a playoff place, and the market prices that climb at one in ten.
What Changes the Jets AFC Championship Read
The read is wrong if the Jets reach the middle of November at .500 or better and the conference price stays at the floor; a team at the wild-card line would not be priced like Kalshi's 1% of October 5, 2026. The dated tests:
• Cleveland, October 11: a 1:00 pm Eastern kickoff at MetLife Stadium against a 3-1 club.
• New England, October 18: at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, against the club holding the AFC's seventh seed on October 5.
• Miami and Las Vegas, October 25 and November 1: two home games that decide whether the Jets enter November near .500.
• Kansas City and Buffalo, November 8 and 15: the two clubs priced near the top of the AFC board, back to back.
• Breece Hall's status: the roster fact on the October 5 report most likely to change how the offense is priced.
When the Jets AFC Championship Market Resolves
The contract settles on the winner of the AFC Championship Game, scheduled for January 31, 2027. Kalshi pays Yes if the Jets win the Pro Football AFC Championship, with the league as its settlement source and an expected expiration of February 8, 2027; under its achievement terms a club eliminated from contention resolves No when the source agencies report it, which means the Jets line settles No as soon as the Jets are out of playoff contention or lose in January. Polymarket resolves on the winner of the 2027 AFC championship game according to official NFL information, resolves a team No once it can no longer win, and resolves to Other if the game is cancelled or not decided by March 31, 2027.
